premiere league darts blog 25-4-14

Peter Wright is making sure that he will be in the semi finals with a 7-5 win over Robert Thornton last night. Wright was much more dominant in the trebles hitting twice as many 100 plus shots than Thornton. I think that there is very little chance of Thornton reaching the semi finals as he does not seem mentally there yet. You can always see something mad on Wright’s hair and he should focus more on the darts and he may be a top player

Phil Taylor and Gary Anderson drew last night which does little for either’s play off hopes. Taylor did have the chance to gain the advantage and lead 4-1 but was un Taylor like as he did not punish his opponent the way he normally does. Gary Anderson was able to get a point back as he regained his form. Taylor was 10 points higher in the averages but averages do not seem to win matches as his finishing was quite week and like in the early part of the season he has to take a look at that as it might be the difference between 4th and 5th

Van Barneveld in my opinion is 1 point away from being certain of a semi final spot after beating Adrian Lewis 7-3. He has got the form and quality and you can see in his trebles and doubles and looks like a favourite for the title

Michael Van Gerwin secured a place in the semi finals with a 7-4 win over Dave Chisnal and looked very good with a 109 average. In my opinion he is playing the best darts at the moment

In the bonus match Robert Thornton did Phil Taylor a big favour as he drew 6-6 with Gary Anderson. There was never a big gap between the two players. Anyone could have won this match with a big three darts against the throw. There were times here when Anderson could not hit a double to save his hopes but there was never a big chance for Anderson to take control of this match and his position assuring fourth as with this result he dropped into fifth position which would not be a play off position
