The world snooker championship started on Saturday when Ronnie O Sullivan last years world champion beat Robin Hull by 10 frames to five but he was not at his brilliant best on Saturday and I am not sure if he can improve. But he has shown in the past that he has the fight of a champion.
Irishman Ken Doherty
showed why he was a champion and Stewart Bingum was not as he as a qualifier picked
up a win and secured a spot in the second round. The Irishman had not won a
world championship match since 2006 when he reached the quarter finals. If you
are not on the best of form he has the experience to beat you
In another qualifier Joe Perry found it very difficult to
get rid of Jamie Burnett but as the match went on you were not sure who would
win at the end of the first session but during the second session pulled out in
from winning by 10 frames to 7 the highest break being a 111 by Jamie Burnett
Shaun Murphy found it very difficult to get over the line in
this very tight encounter between him and Jamie cope and at 8-8 it was anybody’s
game to win but Murphy was able to show his form by hitting breaks of 112 and
87 but it all came down to a one frame match and you would know that this was a
big match But Shaun Murphy won in the end
With the last 2 frames of this match you would not think
that this was a 10 -9 decider but it was and a big break from Ryan day made it
a final frame decider but Maguire came back with a big break of his own to
secure the match
The first of the Asian players went down last night as Xiao
Gudong lost to Englishman Ali Carter but this new Chinese player looks very
good for the new version of Chinese snooker. The biggest break was an 80 by Ali
Carter who went on to win the match by 10 frames to 8
